2D electrophoresis allows the separation and quantification of whole proteins, in contrast to bottom-up LC-MS/MS approaches in which proteins are digested into peptides.
2D electrophoresis allows the separation and specific detection of different isoforms of the same protein carrying modifications having an impact on its mass or its global charge (case of phosphorylations, for example). The different isoforms can then be characterized by mass spectrometry.
NB: This technique requires the use of a specific buffer. Please contact us before preparing your protein extracts.
